Come See Terra Linda High School’s New Native Plant Garden!

Sonoma Compost Contributes to this project
Over 100 students, teachers, parents, and AmeriCorps volunteers helped plant a native plant garden at the front of Terra Linda High School this spring. Over the course of a month we removed old soil, brought in new topsoil, planted native plants, and covered the area with mulch. The resulting garden is beautiful, and it will grow even more beautiful as the plants mature. Before the school year ends we will make informational plaques for each species of plant so people can learn about these native California plants.

The garden was made possible by a generous $500 “Earth Day Everyday” donation from the Marin Community Foundation. In addition, Marin Sanitary Service donated two soil bins to remove the old soil as well as 4 cubic yards of new topsoil. Sonoma Compost donated 4 cubic yards of mulch and gave us a discount on topsoil. We were also able to buy native plants at a discount from Armstrong Garden Center in Novato, O’Donnell’s Nursery in Fairfax, and Sloat Garden Center in San Rafael. Thank you to all of these companies for their support of this project.
